Ignite their love for reading

This Read Aloud Revival podcast, Helping Our Developing Readers Fall in Love with Books, is great! The conversation starts around minute 11:00 and discusses three practical tips to help your developing reader:

  1. We can help our developing readers fall in love with stories.

  2. We can help them practice their skills so that they develop speed and ease and fluency in their reading, and that way they get to that stage of falling in love with reading sooner.

  3. We can help them find books that make reading irresistible. You can also find a printable list of book series to hook your developing readers.

At Heritage Classical Academy, like Sarah discusses in the podcast, our goal is to move our students through our explicit phonics program, Logic of English, while igniting a love for reading through wonderful read aloud books.

Below are some of Read Aloud Revival's favorite early readers. You can also find their complete list on their website.

  • Andy and Sandy by Tomie dePaola

  • Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman

  • Frog and Toad Storybook by Arnold Lobel

  • Henry and Mudge by Cynthia Rylant

  • Great Day for Up by Dr. Seuss

  • Elephant and Biggie books by Mo Willems
